2010 Game: Breakaway
Soccer, FIRST style.

Breakaway is played on a 27'x54' field with two bumps 13¼" high splitting the field into thirds. Two alliances of three robots earn points by shooting soccer balls into their nets. Each goal scored is 1 point. Additional bonus points can be earned at the end of the match for any robot not touching the ground. Each team on an alliance consists of 4 members: driver, manipulation operator, human player, and coach. The teams stand behind their respective wall during the match with the blue alliance on one side of the field and the red alliance on the other.
The game pieces are regulation size 5 soccer balls, available in department or sporting goods store. Each alliance starts with 6 soccer balls in the beginning of each match, arranged in the following format: 1 in near zone, 2 in mid zone, and 3 in far zone. The match begins with a 15 second autonomous period, in which the robots are self controlled and try to score as many of the 6 soccer balls into their goals. In the 2 minute teleoperated periods, robots are controlled by the the human drivers. Teams attempt to score as many goals as possible during this time, and any balls scored must be returned to the field.

In the final 20 seconds, the robots extend to a "Finale Configuration," in which they can earn bonus by hanging by the top bar of the "Tower," and teams can earn additional bonus points by suspending themselves off other alliance team members. Once the match is finished, each robot hanging from the tower is two points and robots hanging from robots is three points for a maximum of eight bonus points available to each alliance.
