2009 Game: Lunacy

Lunacy is played on a low friction field called the Crater measuring 54' x 27'. Alliances of three teams start with robots around the perimeter of the field. Alliances also have 3 human players each spread out around the perimeter of the field. A hexagonal trailer is connected to the back of each robot, with the trailer facing the opposing Alliance's human player.
The game pieces, commercially available as "Orbit Balls" are distinguished by color to be Moon Rocks, Empty Cells, or Super Cells. Each team starts with a maximum of 20 Moon Rocks to divide between their human player and robot; however, only seven can be in the robot at the start of the match. In addition, each team receives 4 empty cells and 2 super cells. Scoring is achieved by placing a game piece into an opposing team's trailer, either by a human player, or a robot. Moon Rock and Empty Cells can be scored at any time during the game and are worth 2 points each. Super Cells must be activated by caring an empty cell with the robot to the Fueling Station. Super Cells are worth 15 points and must be scored in the last 20 seconds.

Each match is 2 minutes and 15 seconds. The first 15 seconds, the robots operate in autonomous mode, receiving no instructions from the drivers. The remaining 2 minutes is driver controlled.
